John Elton is a venture capitalist at iNovia Capital. He focuses on digital media and software investments in Canada and the US.  He also heads iNovia’s US initiatives.

John has spent his career as an advisor, investor or operator in the digital media sector.  While at Turnstone Capital, John advised dMarc Broadcasting on its first round of institutional financing as well as an acquisition prior to its sale to Google (acquired for up to $1.2B.)  Prior to this, John co-managed a venture capital fund for Gulf International Bank which invested in eMotion (acquired by Corbis), DigiMine (now Audience Sciences), and Anystream (now Grab Networks.)  John also worked as a consultant for McGill University’s technology transfer unit, a partner institution of iNovia’s.

In addition, John worked in strategic planning for 24/7 Media (acquired by WPP for $649 million) and as an investment banker at Veronis Suhler Stevenson a merchant banking firm focused on the media and communications industries. 

John currently serves or is an observer on the board of directors of Chango, Collective Media, Vizu, Standout Jobs and LegiTime Technologies.  John also leads iNovia’s investment in Urgent Career.

John received an M.B.A. in Finance and Marketing from New York University and holds a B.A. Degree in Economics from Lehigh University.
